What has kept you working here for 28 years?
"The students, to be honest. It’s fun to work for the students. As a monitor, you greet them as the first face they see when they walk in the door and about the last one to see them leave. There have been a lot of memorable students over the years. There was one student, he and his brothers were always joking around. When I would be at my station at the other end of the dining hall, he’d yell out “Hey princess!” I’ve gotten the chance to meet him and his mother at the student reunions, which are some of my favorite events to be a part of. It’s fun to be able to interact with the students."

"I’ve got a lot of friends that I love to go to clubs with, whether it’s the Army-Navy Club or American Legion Club. We go out to bingo on Thursdays along with different drawings and such. We’re going to a sock-hop soon, so my kids are asking me “What did you wear back in the 50’s?” Well, we used to wear out jeans rolled up, and in South Bend you could tell what school you were from by how you rolled your socks up."

"Number one, be true to yourself. You can learn a lot of things from books, but sometimes life experiences will teach you more. If you get knocked down, get back up again. Life isn’t a barrel of roses all the time, so you need to learn to not take everything to heart. Be yourself and enjoy, one day at a time. Also, money isn’t everything. Family and friendship are most important. Nobody will love you like your family. You can always depend on them. We’ve all had some bad experiences, but we’ve also had a lot of good ones too. So be yourself and just enjoy, one day at a time."
